Idiocultural arts education : strengthening diversity, fostering cohesion.

Activiteit: Oral presentation

Description

Presentation in a session with three papers. The central issue in this session is the de-problematizing of diversity. Three researchers from three different European countries will share their thoughts on this topic amongst themselves and with the audience - the session has much room for discussion. We will present and discuss the German concept of diversity-conscious arts education (’DiKuBi’; prof. dr. Susanne Keuchel, GE), the Finnish concept of arts education as a ’third, hybrid space’ where cultural differences are performed rather than silenced (prof. Eeva Anttila D.A., FI), and the Dutch concept of ’idiocultural arts education’ which starts from the acknowledgment of the existence of the idio-culture of each individual (prof.dr. Evert Bisschop Boele, NL). The session hopes to answer pressing questions about arts education in our (super-)diverse societies, and is of interest to practitioners, researchers and policy makers in arts education.
