Ideomotor leren is het proces waarbij we leren onze intenties te bereiken door de juiste bewegingen te maken. Wanneer organisten muziek leren spelen van noten in plaats van op het gehoor, vindt ideomotor leren niet plaats. Procedureel leren is het proces waarbij we de syntaxis van onze moedertaal verwerven. Muziek leren van notenschrift voorkomt dat organisten procedureel muzieksyntaxis verwerven.
