Abstract
Documenta 14 doesn’t use Kassel as an instrumental site with buildings, walls, and parks that are great for displaying art, but takes Kassel as interlocutor seriously and sees the residents as its first target audience. It turns to Kassel and its inhabitants because it connects to what is already happening, what can already be seen, and the history of the buildings.
