Personal profile

Research interests

As a sociologist I am interested in innovation in a broad sense - culture and processes - in organizations, including the impact of technology on society. I research digital literacy / inclusion and technology adoption at the research group User Centered Design: how can you design digital technology as inclusive and accessible (effectively) as possible for the user? This also means exploring ways to motivate people who are digitally low or illiterate to develop more digital skills in order to be able to participate fully in today's society. I am working with the Digital Literacy Coalition, a network organization in which HG participates and where, among other things, an e-Health Lab is being set up, with the aim of researching and increasing the digital literacy of clients and healthcare staff. But digital literacy is also relevant in other domains, such as in education, where more and more digital collaboration and learning is taking place and innovative curricula being developed, such as IWP education at HG based on Challenge Based Learning and HILL principles (High Impact Learning That Lasts). And where new digital technologies such as 3D can be researched and implemented. I am also involved in the various initiatives of European Engaged University of which Hanze University Groningen is part, including the Thematic Interest Group on Digitalization and innovative pilots such as the module on Digital Future Orientated Education.
