Professional Information

Felipe N. Martins (Dr.) currently holds a position of Senior Lecturer-Researcher at Hanze University of Applied Sciences (the Netherlands), where he is a member of the research group Sensors and Smart Systems. He is involved in courses and projects related to robotics and electronics, both in bachelor and master levels. His background is in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on control of mobile robots. During his PhD he worked on modeling, simulation and adaptive nonlinear control of mobile robots, including multi-robot coordination. During his master's, he implemented a controller for a brushless DC motor and developed a fuzzy controller for a three-phase induction motor to operate as a generator. Before joining academia, Felipe worked as an engineer for 4 years with design and maintenance of industrial automation machines. He also has over 10 years of experience in applying and developing educational robotics, including robotics competitions like the RoboCup Junior.

Overview:

  • PhD, MSc, and BSc in Electrical Engineering.
  • ~20 years of experience as lecturer/researcher in Brazil, Argentina and the Netherlands.
  • ~4 years of experience as an engineer working with industry automation and electronics.
  • ~50 peer-reviewed publications related to robotics, educational robotics, and smart systems, including 2 book chapters and a patent.
  • Editor of the Topical Collection "Smart Robotics for Automation" for the journals Sensors and Automation (MDPI), and co-editor of the research topic "Educational Robotics and Competitions" for the journal Frontiers in Robotics and AI.
  • Best Paper (2018) and third Best Paper (2012) awards at the Workshop on Robotics in Education, Best Participation at VISUM 2015, and honored five times by Engineering graduates.
  • Member of Organizing and Technical Committees of several scientific events and conferences, such as RoboCup Junior, Latin-American Robotics Competition (LARC), Brazilian Conference on Automation (CBA), etc. Member of NVAO panels to assess master programs related to robotics.
