The research area Language Functioning & Healthy Ageing focuses on the following questions:
- How can language disorders in young and old people be detected at the earliest possible stage?
- How are language development and language disorders related to other areas of development in young and old people?
- How does the interaction with the environment play a role in this and how can the interaction be optimized?
How can the communicative participation of children and the elderly with language disorders be increased?
Currently, researchers and professionals working on language skills and language disorders in children have little collaboration with researchers and professionals researching language skills and language disorders in the elderly. By conducting research on the linguistic functioning of both young and old in care and in education, insights into language development and language disorders in children may also yield insights into language skills and language disorders in the elderly, and vice versa.
