At the Research Centre Biobased Economy , we talk a lot about the transition from fossil-based to biobased, renewable raw materials. However, there is also another transition at play, namely from a linear economy to a circular economy. In a circular economy, we reduce the use of raw materials, reuse as many products as possible, and keep raw materials in the cycle for longer by recycling.
The transition to bio-based and circular requires different business models, but also new regulations, different forms of cooperation between companies in the chain and changing consumer behaviour. The Circular Industry professorship deals with all these themes.
Whereas the other professorships of the Biobased Economy Knowledge Centre have a technical and technological angle, the Circular Industry professorship investigates the transition to circular and biobased from an economic and social perspective.
