The resources we rely on as a society are finite. That's why researchers have been working for years to find for new sustainable alternatives and to improve existing alternatives. The biobased resources play an important part in the road to a biobased economy. For the transition to a future sustainable biobased economy, it is crucial to use biobased raw materials wisely.
The professorship Biorefinery of the Research Centre Biobased Economy investigates and develops new and more efficient methods of converting biobased raw materials into building blocks for numerous industrial applications in notably the Northern Netherlands, such as for agriculture, chemicals, food, and pharmaceuticals. The efficiency and economic feasibility of new processes are examined in collaboration with companies and students. This way, the professorship contributes to the desired increase in sustainability in the Northern Netherlands and beyond.
