On Friday 4 May, 2018 the senior lecturer-researcher Dr Beata Kviatek of the International Business School was an invited guest-speaker in the international panel discussion on Climate Change, which was organised on occasion of the award of honorary doctorate of Klaipeda University (Lithuania) to the President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences Professor Tarmo Soomere.
The panel on Climate Change followed the inaugural lecture of Professor Tarmo Soomere on "Multifaceted Patterns of Climate Change on the Eastern Baltic". During the panel, Dr Beata Kviatek briefly discussed current climate mitigation policies of the European Union, pointed to the need of political commitment, and underlined the importance of a dialogue between scientists and policy makers. After the panel, the
inauguration ceremony of Doctor Honoris Causa (honorary degree) of KlaipÄ—da University (Lithuania) to Professor Tarmo Soomere from Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia), who is also the President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences,
was held. The degree of Doctor Honoris Causa is usually given by universities to prominent international figures in academia, politics, and culture. The ceremony was attended by Klaipeda University Senate, the Klaipeda City Mayor, the Estonian
Ambassador to Lithuania, and other distinguished guests.
