Title Dr. Beata Kviatek presenting at the European Consortium for Political Research Degree of recognition International Media name/outlet ENTRANCE web page Media type Web Country/Territory Netherlands Date 1/09/21 Description This week Dr. Beata Kviatek, a senior researcher at EnTranCe | Centre of Expertise Energy and a lecturer at the International Business School, is giving a presentation on development of regional hydrogen economy in the Northern Netherlands at the international conference of the European Consortium for Political Research. The Consortium is the leading scholarly society concerned with the research and teaching in Europe. It unites over 300 institutional members in nearly 50 countries, which amounts to a global community of tens of thousands of scholars.
Dr. Beata Kviatek is presenting in section on energy policy, politics and governance, which addresses such issues as the interplay between integration and fragmentation in energy politics, trade-offs and synergies between energy policy goals, or legitimacy and acceptance of disruptive policy and
technological innovations. One of the panels in this section, in which Dr. Beata Kviatek is presenting, is devoted to discuss the structures of the emerging international hydrogen economy.
In her presentation on development of regional hydrogen economy in the Northern Netherlands, Dr. Beata Kviatek is pointing to the importance of the social aspect in making the business case of the first European Hydrogen Valley successful. As reported by the Province of Groningen, the agreed
investments into development of regional hydrogen economy will amount to over 9 billion euro, which is believed will secure some 66,000 existing recurring jobs and help create between 25,000 (in 2030) and 41,000 (in 2050) new recurring jobs, and up to 104,000 new one-off jobs by 2050. However this positive
effect in the social domain from development of regional hydrogen economy will be only achieved if the social acceptance of technological innovations, e.g., hydrogen technology, including local acceptance of wind and sun parks installations on shore and off shore that are needed for the production of green hydrogen, will be ensured.
