Description

Globalised labour markets require the young graduates of today to be mobile and culturally sensitive. Higher Education institutions increasingly bear the responsibility to both train their graduates for these global markets and to consider the varies needs of companies and the job market to compete internationally. This session takes a triangular perspective by firstly examining the needs and motivations of companies when hiring international talents and how educational institutions can support their efforts. Secondly, it highlights the functional and general competencies Higher Education institutions nowadays have to focus on in their educational programs, and lastly, how mobility programs, such as study and placement abroad programs, can nurture these competencies to meet the demands of the global labour market. The session is supported from recent research findings and cases from Finland, Russia, and the Netherlands. Several examples of mobility programs around the world will exemplify the sessions content and lead to discussions among the participants. Due to its global focus, the session is applicable for Higher Education institutions in all geographical areas
